Solar Oven Project Helps Transform Lives
MSU’s Tanzanian solar oven project embodies the five components of world-grant signature pedagogy. A multicollege team of students advised by Craig Somerton, associate professor of mechanical engineering, worked with Solar Circle, a Michigan nonprofit organization, to develop the solar ovens. The ovens will provide the people of Tanzania with an alternative to using wood and charcoal cooking fuels, which contribute to deforestation and serious health conditions.
